Humann selected for Hall of Honor induction

June 11, 2004

DALLAS — Longtime local civic and business leader Walter J. Humann has been honored with induction into the Texas Transportation Hall of Honor. Humann was recognized during a June 11 ceremony for his “ongoing, positive influence on the quality of life in Dallas and North Texas by facilitating improvements in the transportation infrastructure.”

The newest member of the Hall of Honor, established in 2000 by the Texas Transportation Institute, is the chairman of WJH Corporation and has held seats on several corporate and non-profit boards.

“The Hall of Honor is intended to recognize that small group of people &#8211 people like Walt Humann &#8211 whose vision and exceptional leadership made possible the outstanding transportation system we have today,¿ TTI Deputy Director Dennis Christiansen said. “We are proud and thankful to recognize these great leaders for what they’ve given the people of Texas and the nation.”

In 1997, Humann earned the prestigious Linz Award for his leadership in bringing North Central Expressway and Dallas Area Rapid Transit to fruition.

“Mr. Humann has the quiet tenacity and perceptive vision to develop public/private partnerships to address pressing urban problems,” says the honoree’s citation. “He has applied his considerable skills and finesse to develop consensus on complex transportation issues among groups with diverse opinions.” In addition, transportation industry leaders have praised Humann for his contributions to education, community and race relations, government reorganization, and urban planning, design and beautification.
