The nation’s leading researcher on mobility, Texas Transportation Institute Research Engineer Tim Lomax, has been dubbed “The King of Congestion” by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
Lomax was interviewed by AASHTO for a four-minute profile video entitled Close Up with the King of Congestion. In the interview, Lomax details the problem of congestion and what can be done to lessen it. “In growing areas, we need more capacity,” Lomax said during the video. “But we also have to operate those systems we have to the best extent we can.”
The interview was conducted when Lomax was in Washington D.C. recently testifying about congestion before the Senate Public Works Committee.
Lomax is best known for his 25-year work co-authoring TTI’s Urban Mobility Report, which has been tracking the cost and wait-time for commuters who are stuck in traffic.
In the latest Urban Mobility Report published last July, congestion was shown to have improved during the study period. However, Lomax predicts the problem will rebound as the economy improves.
