Laura Wright, webmaster at the Texas Transportation Institute, College Station, recently joined presenters from several prominent corporations at a national conference on intranet development.
At the 1999 National Online Meeting held May 21 in New York, Wright joined with information professionals from PricewaterhouseCoopers, Newsweek, MIT Libraries and COMTEX to advance understanding of how intranet sites are developed and used.
Wright’s discussion focused on the development of TTI¿s intranet site “TTINet.” Her presentation included information on identifying the need to establish an intranet site and forming teams to carry out the responsibilities associated with site development such as determining goals and target audiences. She also discussed development of the site interface, site maintenance and decisions regarding hardware and software requirements. Wright emphasized that the development of TTINet was a collaborative effort between many individuals and that its success was largely due to the willingness of network and information groups to work together in reaching a common goal.
