Short Biography
Maryam Shirinzad has over 10 years of experience in the field of transportation engineering. She taught transportation engineering courses and worked as a consultant before joining the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) in 2015 as a Graduate Research Assistant. Dr. Shirinzad is currently an Assistant Research Scientist at TTI. She has collaborated with several teams in the Traffic Operation and Roadway Safety Division at TTI. Some of her recent projects include:
Evaluation of Aesthetically Treated Crosswalks (FHWA).
Pavement Marking Patterns and Widths – Human Factors Study (MnDOT).
Assessing Pavement Markings for Automated Vehicle Readiness (MnDOT).
Assess Driver Distraction in an Era of Rapid Technological Change for Digital Advertising Billboards (TxDOT).
Data Collection for The Effects of Work Zone Infrastructure on the Transition to Manual Driving During Work Zones with Lane Reductions (FHWA).
Evaluate Alternative Methods to Examine Visibility of Pavement Markings (TxDOT).
Dr. Shirinzad is an expert in transportation network evaluation and analysis. Moreover, she has conducted numerous studies that included different forms of data collection (including designing online surveys to collect information and opinions from different entities on the state of practice for pavement and pavement marking maintenance).
She also has been involved in several human factors studies that included recruiting different target groups, designing database structures for collecting and compiling data, conducting analysis, and preparing reports. She was the ITE student chapter president and a founding member of WTS student chapter at Texas A&M University while a student. She has also collaborated in several publications and has been recognized as Outstanding Student of the Year by the DOT- University Research Center in 2018 and Outstanding Student by the TexITE in 2016.
