Short Biography

Dr. Sujan Sikder is a Research Data Scientist with the TTI’s Travel Forecasting Program located in Austin, Texas. He has experience working in all aspects of travel demand modeling – data analysis, model estimation, software implementation through TransCAD GISDK and Cube Voyager scripts, model validation and application. He has extensive experience in analyzing the household travel survey and transit on-board survey data, including the 2001, 2009 and 2017 NHTS (National Household Travel Survey) data. Prior to joining TTI, he served as a Senior Data Scientist at WSP, where he worked on the development and application of travel forecasting models - both trip-based and activity-based – for several transportation agencies (e.g., Idaho Transportation Department, Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Mid-Region Council of Governments) in the United States. He played a key role in converting the Java-based CTRAMP (Coordinated Travel Regional Activity-Based Modeling Platform) of Atlanta Regional Commission’s activity-based travel demand model to a Python-based ActivitySim platform. He also developed software programs using R language for several metropolitan regions in the United States. Dr. Sikder has presented his research in  national conferences and published articles in international journals such as Journal of the Transportation Research Board and Journal of Choice Modeling.  In addition to project and research work, Dr. Sujan enjoys teaching and has taught travel demand forecasting techniques for the Idaho Transportation Department and Los Angeles Metro Staff members.
