Abstract:
This research product provides workshop materials for ¿Incorporating Safety into the Highway Design Process: Multilane Highways and Freeways Workshop.¿ The course notes give an agenda, a printout of PowerPoint slides, exercises, and a course evaluation. The accompanying CD provides the PowerPoint slides and a PDF of the course notes. The purpose of this workshop is to inform participants (engineers and technicians) about (1) the safety impacts of design alternatives and (2) the availability of tools for evaluating these safety impacts. The workshop also demonstrates how to apply these tools. Subjects discussed include a review of highway safety issues, an overview of safety evaluation, the procedure for multilane highway segments, the procedure for freeway segments, the procedure for interchange ramps, multilane highway section evaluation, and alternatives analysis.
