Abstract:
Infrastructure agencies like the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have a need to cost-effectively implement transportation user services that are required by the federal government and that are expected by TxDOT's customers. A true multi-vendor environment that provides interoperable equipment and systems is a basic building block of such a deployment.
This project evaluates the impact of the National Transportation Communications for ITS Protocol (NTCIP) on the implementation of transportation control systems within TxDOT, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) services and devices. The project provides an assessment of implementation capabilities to assist TxDOT in the cost-effective deployment of these systems.
