MASH TL-4 Crash Testing of Bicycle Railing on a Constant Slope Parapet

Abstract:

The purpose of the test reported herein was to assess the performance of the combination barrier system that consists of a bicycle railing mounted on top of a standard Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) concrete parapet according to the safety-performance evaluation guidelines included in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware, Second Edition (MASH). The crash test was performed in accordance with MASH Test Level 4 (TL-4). This report provides details on the Bicycle Railing on a Constant Slope Parapet, the crash test and results, and the performance assessment of the Bicycle Railing on a Constant Slope Parapet for MASH TL-4longitudinal barrier evaluation criteria. The Bicycle Railing on a Constant Slope Parapet met the performance criteria for MASH TL-4 longitudinal barriers.
