Abstract:
The Houston District of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is presently developing plans for a Computerized Transportation Management System (CTMS) along the I-10 Katy Freeway. The completed CTMS will include the installation of video surveillance, changeable message signs, mainlaine vehicle detection, frontage road signal operation, and freeway entrance ramp control This CTMS project also includes devices along the Katy Freeway HOV Lane as well as its access ramps. TxDOT has requested that the Texas Transportation Institiute (TTI) complete a feasibility study to evaluate the need for the installation of ramp control on the section of the Katy Freeway from the Harris/Fort Bend County Line to S.H. 6. This study includes an analysis of the existing traffic conditions, those that can be expected to occur in the future, an evalutation of ramp metering guidelines, and recommendations for installation of ramp control devices.
