Abstract:
Trip generation rates play an important role in transportation planning, which could help planners make informed decisions about future transportation investment and design.
Using over a decade's worth of workplace and special generator (WSG) survey data collected as part of the Texas Travel Survey Program, this research developed a Texas Trip Generation Manual and User Guide for use in small- and medium-size areas to aid in the land development process. Future versions of this manual will contain additional data from WSG surveys and other outside sources. Researchers also created a set of generic attraction rates for different metropolitan planning organization size categories for use in modelling.
The research project consisted of nine major tasks, three of which were geared toward land development and two focused on modeling. The researchers presented their findings in a workshop, and generated a paper detailing the research efforts of each task.
