Dr. Boniphace Kutela is an Associate Research Engineer at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI). He holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Dr. Kutela has over ten years of research experience in traffic safety and operations, intelligent transportation systems, railroad network analysis and safety, and connected and autonomous vehicles. He has led several research studies and has been a key researcher for FHWA, NCHRP, TxDOT, NDOT, and TDOT safety and operations research projects.
His major areas of expertise include Roadway Data Analysis Methodologies, Machine Learning, Predictive Modeling, and Natural Language Processing, focusing on traffic safety and operations. He is equipped with data analysis and visualization knowledge using R and Python, spatial analysis and modeling using GIS tools, and traffic simulation and modeling using Synchro and HCS. He has authored/co-authored over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented over 100 presentations at national and local conferences. He is a certified Professional Engineer in Texas and Michigan and a certified Project Manager.
