Dr. Abhijit Mistri is presently working as an Associate Transportation Researcher at Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI), Bryan, Texas, USA. He joined TTI in January 2023 and worked on a TxDOT-funded research project, “Evaluate Performance of Sealers and Coatings Applied to TxDOT Bridge Substructures”. Currently, Dr. Mistri is involved in different research projects, including: (1) Increasing the Lifespan and Resiliency of Bridge Superstructure Concrete Through Durability-Based Performance Evaluation (funded by US DOT through UTC), (2) Alkali-Silica Reaction Mitigation Strategies with Specific Admixtures (funded by Idaho DOT).
Dr. Mistri obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Civil Engineering in 2022 from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, India, and Curtin University, Perth, Australia. The title of his Ph.D. dissertation is “Treatment of Recycled Coarse Aggregate as Sustainable Construction Material”. He has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Honours) and a master’s degree in Structural Engineering. Before joining TTI, Dr. Mistri worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in DeConcrete (European Union Kolarctic project no. KO4068 “DeConcrete: Eco-efficient Arctic Technologies Cooperation”) at the University of Oulu, Finland. The research project was related to the utilization of secondary recycled aggregate in construction and life cycle analysis (LCA).
Dr. Mistri has research interests in sustainable construction materials, supplementary cementitious materials, durability of concrete, performance assessment of different coating and sealer materials on concrete substrate, recycled aggregate concrete, valorization of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, condition assessment of concrete structures, microstructure analysis and macro-scale performance prediction of concrete, alternative aggregates for concrete, environmental impact assessment of building materials, application of bio-cementation in civil engineering.
Dr. Mistri has published 14 peer-reviewed journal articles in different reputed journals related to the field. He also serves as a reviewer for different journals (ASCE Materials in Civil Engineering, Journal of Cleaner Production, Construction and Building Materials, Transportation Research Record, Waste Management & Research, etc.) related to Civil Engineering. Dr. Mistri presented their research work at four international conferences and two final project seminars. He is a member of two different TRB Technical Committees: (i) Standing Committee on Testing and Evaluation of Transportation Structures (AKB40), Transportation Research Board (TRB) [Term - April 15, 2025 - April 14, 2028], (ii) Standing Committee on Concrete Pavement Construction and Rehabilitation (AKC50), Transportation Research Board (TRB) [Term - April 15, 2025 - April 14, 2028]
Dr. Mistri is willing to collaborate and propose research ideas related to his expertise.
