Dr. Myunghoon Ko is a transportation safety expert with nearly 30 years of experience spanning government, industry, and research sectors. Since joining the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) in 2008, he has led numerous high-impact projects, integrating technical proficiency with practical insight to advance roadway safety for all users.
Dr. Ko’s research portfolio is both broad and deep, covering areas such as crash data analysis, contributing factor classification, safety countermeasure evaluation, and the development of systemic and proactive safety approaches. He specializes in innovative applications of simulation and interactive technologies, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and driving simulators, to enhance safety assessments and educational outreach.
A central focus of his recent work is the protection of vulnerable road users, particularly children and older adults. He leads several pedestrian and bicyclist safety projects aimed at improving safety outcomes for young users (ages 5–10) and older adults (65+). As part of these initiatives, Dr. Ko and his team have developed age-appropriate educational tools—including animated videos, cartoon books, VR experiences, and printed brochures—to teach safe behaviors and reduce crash risk through targeted, engaging interventions.
