Short Biography
Rod Cavness is a Research Specialist in the Behavioral Research Program, Center for Transportation Safety at Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI). Since joining the Center for Transportation Safety in 2009, Rod’s research primary focus areas have been occupant protection and distracted driving. Currently Rod organizes and conducts observational traffic surveys and collects data related to vehicle occupant behavior (e.g., seat belt usage, correct child seat usage, the use of mobile communication devices while driving, motorcycle helmet use, etc.) and leads training and implementation of surveys on a full-time basis. As a researcher dedicated to quality control on field observational surveys, Rod is highly adept at identifying and resolving data collection issues. Prior to his time at TTI, Rod had four years of managerial and supervisory experience in other fields.
