Michael Martin is an Associate Research Scientist at TTI, where he is the Assistant Program Manager for the Data and Spatial Analytics Program. Michael's passion is in geospatial data analysis, and since 2020, he has had the fortune to investigate new planning, operations, and safety applications of connected vehicle data that is flowing from today's modern vehicles. During that time, he helped pioneer TTI's cloud computing infrastructure and capabilities that have allowed researchers to turn literal billions and trillions of raw data points into information and ultimately actionable intelligence for the end consumer.
Today, Michael co-leads a team of data scientists and engineers in supporting, developing, and evaluating data innovations for the Texas Department of Transportation Strategic Planning for Expedited Enterprise-wide Data Innovations (SPEEDI) contract. He enjoys pushing the envelope of what's possible and working with others to think beyond the "that's how we've always done it" mindset.
He also co-leads another TxDOT contract focused on Data Integrations across the Department. This effort is all about building out TxDOT's Enterprise Data Platform and making it the strong, reliable foundation upon which secure advanced analytics are built. Michael enjoys the balance that this work requires between offering both a hard technical knowhow along with the soft skills of relationship fostering. A key part to this balance is helping interpret intentions so that all parties involved understand and trust each other's position.
Away from work, Michael enjoys resorting to his roots as a country kid by spending time outdoors and cattle ranching with his wife and daughter in Central Texas.
