Emmy Shields began her career at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) in 2018 as a Graduate Student Worker while earning her Master of Public Health from Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, she joined the Center for Alcohol and Drug Education Studies (CADES), where she supported a range of projects focused on ignition interlocks, DWI recidivism, and marijuana-impaired driving. A key part of her role involved coordinating the Texas Impaired Driving Task Force, including oversight of the Annual Texas Impaired Driving Plan, the Annual Texas Impaired Driving Forum, quarterly meetings, and providing technical assistance.
After six years with CADES, Emmy transitioned to TTI’s Road User Safety Program. She continues to serve as Principal Investigator for the Texas Impaired Driving Task Force grant while also leading a project aimed at improving pedestrian and bicycle safety on university campuses. This initiative uses a multifaceted approach that includes education, awareness of traffic laws, and collaboration with students, staff, and campus law enforcement. She also brings expertise in micromobility, with experience leading projects related to shared e-scooter and e-bike systems.
Emmy’s experience includes grant writing, project management, literature reviews, report writing, event planning, educational material development, and curriculum development and training.
