Short Biography
Dr. Nishita Sinha is a behavioral economist and an Assistant Research Scientist at TTI’s Center for Transportation Safety. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Sinha worked at the Human Behavior Lab where she successfully conducted and supported studies that focus on everyday decision-making, that ultimately impact critical outcomes such as health, safety and sustainability.
At TTI, Nishita’s research focuses on using experimental and quasi-experimental methods to analyze policy questions of occupational and traffic safety. Her recent projects have weighed on the role of socio-demographic factors in aviation safety, racial over-representation in traffic crash data and estimation of injury risk to pedestrians and pedal cyclists using records from EMS and Trauma Registries. She works with large health datasets to gain a deeper understanding of the linkages between traffic crashes and health outcomes. Nishita has led or supported projects funded by the Southwest Center for Agricultural Health, Injury Prevention, and Education (SWAG Center), the Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program, the Federal Motor Carrier Association, and the National Science Foundation.
Prior to joining TTI, Dr. Sinha worked for an investment bank as an economist researching macroeconomic health of Asian economies. She also interned with Food and Agricultural Organization at their Rome headquarter where she studied land-use issues among disadvantaged communities.
