Dr. David Bierling is a program manager and a senior research scientist with Texas A&M Transportation Institute’s Research & Implementation Houston regional office, which works with sponsors and partners to research, recommend, and implement innovative, dependable, and practical information technology, engineering, and planning solutions for transportation systems. His experience includes over two decades in leading applied projects that help governments and society better manage the safety of transport and industrial systems for people and the natural environment. As principal investigator, Dr. Bierling has directed extensive fieldwork and collection of survey data, technical cargo transport data, studies on emergency and disaster preparedness and planning, and testing and evaluation analyses for emergency response and cargo transport technologies, including lead researcher for interviews and focus group panels with emergency response technology users. Dr. Bierling is an advisory Director for Transportation Research with the Texas A&M Hazard Reduction & Recovery Center and a member of the Graduate Faculty in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at Texas A&M University. He also achieved Pro Board certification through Texas A&M Emergency Services Training Institute for NFPA 472 hazmat incident command, NFPA 1072 hazmat technician, and NFPA 472 hazmat technician with rail tank car, cargo tank truck, and intermodal tank specialties, and completed Advanced Public Information Officer certification through FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute.
