Short Biography

Eva Shipp is an injury epidemiologist and research scientist in TTI’s Center for Transportation Safety, where she also manages the center’s Crash Analytics Team. She received her bachelor of arts degree from The University of Texas at Austin (UT–Austin) in archaeology and anthropology, where she focused on artifact conservation and participated in excavations in Belize, Israel, and Turkey. Her graduate studies focused on injury prevention and occupational health and safety. She earned two degrees in epidemiology (master’s and Ph.D.) from The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health.

After graduation, she became a faculty member at The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health – San Antonio Regional Campus and the Texas A&M School of Public Health, where she was tenured. Eva has taught graduate level courses in epidemiologic methods and data management and computing. Much of her epidemiological research has focused on the health and safety of migrant and seasonal farmworkers and other vulnerable working populations. She’s led or supported projects funded by the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) through the Southwest Center for Agricultural Health, Injury Prevention, and Education (SWAG Center).

She joined TTI in 2015, where she focuses on transportation safety, injury prevention, and workers who drive-on-the-job, especially those engaged in agriculture and truck drivers. She is also engaged in developing methods for integrating passively collected and disparate data sources into transportation safety research. Research sponsors have included the Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program, the Federal Motor Carrier Association, the NIOSH SWAG Center, and the Texas Department of Transportation. She also plays an integral role in the development and implementation of the Texas Strategic Highway Safety Plan.
