Dr. Sushant Sharma has a Ph.D. in transportation systems engineering. Prior to his current position, he was working at Purdue University as a research associate and a post-doctoral fellow (PDF) in the NEXTRANS Center, a USDOT Regional University Transportation Center. He has multiple years of professional research experience in transportation modeling and planning, big-data analytics, human factors and systems modeling, traffic safety and operations, freight modeling, automated and connected vehicle impacts, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). He has worked on research sponsored by FHWA, NCHRP, SHRP 2, UTC, and State DOTs (INDOT, TxDOT etc.)
Dr. Sharma a has proven track record of high-quality independent research and timely completion of projects and holds publication with high citation numbers in peer-reviewed journals. In addition to working on projects, Dr. Sharma has published a book chapter, 40 peer-reviewed, journal and conference papers, and 21 technical/research reports on topics such as safety, real-time traffic operations, network modeling, travel forecasting, evacuation, GIS data integration and transit asset management. Based on his expertise in network modeling and optimization, freight planning, and stochastic simulation, Dr. Sharma is an invited member of the Transportation Network Modeling (ADB30) committee Freight Transportation Planning and Logistics (AT015) of the Transportation Research Board (TRB). Further, Dr. Sharma also serves as an invited member of the User Information Systems Committee (AND20).
Dr. Sharma serves as a reviewer of many high-quality journals (Transportation Research Part A and Part C, IEEE Journal, Computer-Aided Civil, and Infrastructure Engineering, Network and Spatial Economics, Environment and Planning, Journal of ITS, Transportation Research Record, and others) and has reviewed more than 150 research articles. He also serves on the review board of various conferences like IEEE Conference on ITS, World Conference on ITS, and TPMDC. Dr. Sharma has also taught graduate level courses in transportation and infrastructure systems at Purdue University and received high student-evaluation scores for his instruction.
