Short Biography
Dr. Xu is an assistant research scientist in the Clean Energy Program within the Air Quality and Environment Division under the TTI's Environment Group. He is also associated with TTI's Center for Advancing Research in Transportation Emissions, Energy, and Health (CARTEEH). He holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in information and data science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in urban and regional sciences from Texas A&M University.
Before joining TTI, Dr. Xu served as an assistant research scientist, project manager, and co-investigator at the Center for Health Systems and Design at Texas A&M University. In this role, he contributed to two National Institutes of Health R01 projects that evaluated the causal effects of urban environment interventions on health outcomes. With over a decade of interdisciplinary research experience, Dr. Xu specializes in exploring the interactions among transportation, public health, equity, and environmental justice. At TTI, Dr. Xu has led and contributed to numerous projects in transportation air quality and alternative vehicle fuel and technology (AVFT) for CARTEEH, TxDOT, and TCEQ. His research spans areas including electric vehicles, AVFT, GHG reduction strategies, the health impacts of traffic-related air pollution, on-road mobile source emissions modeling, emissions inventory utilities, and data visualization. Dr. Xu has authored more than 30 research papers and technical reports.
