Mr. Wood is a nationally recognized researcher and project manager focused on the intersection of transportation policy, planning, and operations. Specifically, over the last fifteen years, Mr. Wood led research efforts that investigated how emerging technologies influenced the transportation system, the effective implementation of road and parking pricing systems, geometric design influences, behavioral factors, and the rollout of connected vehicle applications for commercial fleet vehicles. Mr. Wood has authored over 75 journal reports, conference papers, and project reports during his time as a researcher.

While at TTI, Mr. Wood has led over 30 externally-funded projects as a Principal Investigator for a variety of public agency and corporate sponsors; including the Federal Highway Administration, Texas Department of Transportation, North Central Texas Council of Governments, Capital Metro, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, Cintra, Carma Corporation, Lindsay Corporation, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.  Mr. Wood currently serves as the Principal Investigator for TTI's role in the Miles Matter project, an evaluation of a smartphone-based road user crediting system aimed at exploring alternatives to the traditional gas tax in the Dallas-Fort Worth region (supported by FHWA's STSFA program). He was the principal investigator for a multi-year project sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation to develop new methods for communicating traveler information for managed lane networks. For the Federal Highway Administration, Mr. Wood led regional workshops for public agencies looking to advance new congestion pricing applications. He was the lead author of NCHRP Synthesis Report 559: Emerging Challenges to Priced Managed Lanes.  Mr. Wood was also the primary author of the Planning Considerations Chapter for NCHRP Report 835: Guidelines for Implementing Managed Lanes.  Mr. Wood was the Principal Investigator for TTI on the Texas Connected Freight Corridors (TCFC) Project, a multi-year partnership to deploy connected vehicle applications throughout the state, in concert with the Southwest Research Institute, UT-Austin, TxDOT, NCTCOG, and the FHWA.

Additionally, Mr. Wood was a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Managed Lane Committee for over a decade as well as serving as its Research Coordinator for many years. He has also been a member of the TRB Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and the Transportation Planning Applications Committees.
