Short Biography
Dr. Lingtao Wu is an Associate Research Engineer at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute Center for Transportation Safety. Dr. Wu has twelve years of experience in research on topics related to crash data analysis, statistical modeling, safety effectiveness evaluation, safety data management, and crash modification factor (CMF) evaluation. He has authored over 30 technical papers and book chapters, and is a widely recognized researcher in traffic safety.
Dr. Wu has been a key contributor in projects “Systemic Approach to Pedestrian Safety Improvement”, “Data-Driven Safety Analysis Framework for the Beaumont District” and “Rural Speed Safety Project for USDOT Safety Data Initiative.” Dr. Wu helped Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) develop a methodology for identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing systemic improvements. This approach has been extensively applied statewide, especially on rural roadways. He has developed Safety Scoring Tools for TxDOT. The tools can be used to evaluate the effects of geometric, traffic control and roadside design elements on safety.
Dr. Wu is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, such as the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Young Researcher Paper Award, the International Road Federation Fellowship, and the European Road Safety Award. His activities in professional organizations reflect the variety of his interests and expertise, with memberships on Institute of Transportation Engineers, friends on TRB Committees of ANB20 (Safety Data, Analysis and Evaluation) and ANB25 (Highway Safety Performance). He is a registered Professional Engineer in Texas (No. 137792).
