Clayton Treybig is a dedicated Research Engineering Associate III at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) in College Station, Texas, where he specializes in pavement inspections. He grew up with his three brothers in the small town of Schulenburg, Texas, and enjoys cooking, hiking, fishing, and traveling. Clayton holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and two Associate Degrees from Blinn College. He is currently pursuing his Master of Science at Texas A&M University.
With extensive field experience, Clayton has conducted Pavement Condition Index (PCI) surveys on more than 250 general aviation airfields across Texas for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). He is proficient in airfield communication with Air Traffic Control and pilots at non-towered airports. He manages pavement condition data using PAVER software and presents findings through Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
In addition to his airfield work, Clayton has served as a Pavement Management Information System (PMIS) Auditor for TxDOT for four years. He is certified to evaluate flexible pavement, continuously reinforced concrete pavement, and jointed concrete pavement across the state’s highway network.
He also evaluates the performance of test sections on The Balanced Mix Design System for Superpave Hot-Mix Asphalt Mixtures with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP). These test sections are spread throughout Texas in different climates and in areas with varying traffic volume. He conducts an annual performance assessment through crack mapping distresses found and taking cores throughout each mix.
Clayton is also a certified Profiler Operator, collecting and analyzing profile data on airport runways using the Boeing Bump Index Analysis to assess smoothness. He also supports TxDOT's Ride Quality Verification projects by profiling newly constructed highways.
