Dr. Nishita Sinha is a behavioral economist and an Assistant Research Scientist at TTI’s Center for Transportation Safety. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Sinha worked at the Human Behavior Lab where she successfully conducted and supported studies that focus on everyday decision-making, that ultimately impact critical outcomes such as health, safety and sustainability.
Nishita specializes in analyzing traffic crash data and evaluating the effectiveness of safety countermeasures, including driver education and licensing strategies. As part of TTI’s crash analytics team, Dr. Sinha integrates diverse datasets - including crash data, hospital records, and demographic data - to evaluate traffic safety risks, health outcomes, and policy effectiveness. She is also a member of the Texas TRCC Technical Committee and supports different initiative of Texas TRCC, including data integration, analysis and visualization.
Nishita has led or supported projects funded by the Southwest Center for Agricultural Health, Injury Prevention, and Education (SWAG Center), the Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program, the National Cooperative Highway Research Program, and the National Science Foundation.
Prior to joining TTI, Dr. Sinha worked for an investment bank as an economist researching macroeconomic health of Asian economies. She also interned with Food and Agricultural Organization at their Rome headquarter where she studied land-use issues among disadvantaged communities.
