The Texas Legislature asked the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) to update a study completed in late 2011 documenting locations and trends of oil and gas energy developments in the state and also add changes in pavement condition data. The research team focused on three major regions of interest: the Barnett Shale region in North Texas (13 counties), the Eagle Ford Shale region in South Texas (29 counties), and the Permian Basin region in West Texas (37 counties). Pavement condition data was gathered from the Texas Department of Transportation. The research included a high-level analysis to identify long-term statistical correlations between oil and gas energy developments in the state with changes in pavement condition scores over the last few years.
