The Texas A&M Transportation Institute seeks to provide a safe, healthy and pleasant environment for employees and visitors. To attain that goal, TTI owned or leased property, and vehicles (owned, leased, or rented) shall be maintained as smoke, vape and tobacco free.
Reason for Rule
This rule supplements System Policy 34.05 and identifies where smoking, vaping and tobacco use is prohibited to protect the health and safety of TTI employees and visitors.
Requirements and Responsibilities
1.1 Work Areas. All work areas owned or leased under the administrative purview of the Director of the Texas A&M Transportation Institute will be entirely smoke, vape and tobacco free. This rule will apply to all indoor space including foyers, entryways, individual offices, and sidewalks, parking lots, grounds, and walkways immediately adjacent to all such buildings and structures.
1.2 Vehicles. Any vehicle (owned, leased or rented) will be entirely smoke, vape and tobacco free.
1.3 Urban/Regional Offices. TTI offices which are located in buildings away from the agency’s main headquarters on the Texas A&M University campus will, to the greatest extent possible, be located in buildings which are smoke, vape and tobacco free, unless otherwise directed by building and/or municipal ordinances.
1.4 Laboratory/Research Areas. Particular care should be taken to keep all research areas/laboratories smoke free where flammable liquids, toxic chemicals or any fire or safety risk exists.
This rule relies on the thoughtfulness and consideration of smoke, vape and tobacco users for its success. It is each TTI employee’s responsibility to observe the provisions of this rule.
