Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) Senior Research Engineer and Program Manager of Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) Russell Henk was recently featured on KBTX news explaining the mission of the program.
TDS launched to try to bring down the top cause of death for young people in the country. In fact, teens are eight times more likely than adults to die in a car crash in the first half-year they’re behind the wheel. Plus, when a teen passenger dies in a wreck, it’s most likely a teen that was behind the wheel.
State Farm added a boost to the program with $350,000 in grant funding. As a result, TDS is looking to reach 100 new high schools and some 100,000 more teen drivers this year.
