Transportation policy leaders in the Texas State Capitol met on September 10 to discuss future funding needs for the state’s transportation system. Ginger Goodin, Director of TTI’s Transportation Policy Research Center, and Brianne Glover, Assistant Research Scientist with the Infrastructure Investment Analysis Program, testified before the House Transportation Committee, Subcommittee on Long-term Infrastructure Planning.
Their testimony featured estimates of additional construction and maintenance dollars needed under two different scenarios to meet the needs outlined in the 2011 report “It’s About Time: Investing in Transportation to Keep Texas Economically Competitive” published by the Texas 2030 Committee. The scenarios consider a variety of factors and assumptions, including: population growth, fuel efficiency, construction cost inflation, and infrastructure needs to support the energy sector.
