The Texas Transportation Institute and the Texas Department of Public Safety agreed to join forces on future transportation research projects through a Memorandum of Agreement approved in July by the Texas A&M System Board of Regents and TTI and DPS directors.
Successful cooperation on the ALERT project, a vehicle-based information system designed to improve the safety and efficiency of law enforcement, led TTI and the DPS to draft the 10-year agreement in which both agree to share resources, seek joint funding and assign staff for coordinating projects.
TTI and the DPS plan to establish a mobile data collection system that allows public safety officers to enter information directly from the field into centralized databases, cutting out middlemen and cutting down relay errors.
