Short Biography

 

Ms. Storey is a Research Scientist with the Advanced Transportation Operations Program. She has over 32 years in various roles designing, developing, improving, and analyzing the functions of the roadsides to better understand and manage the effects of design and operations upon the natural systems within transportation facilities. Ms. Storey works to disseminate transportation-related information to current and future transportation professionals and to foster the implementation of relevant leading-edge research results in the most efficient, effective, and expedient method possible. Recent projects include the Texas Connected and Automated Vehicle Task Force; design and maintenance of urban freeway roadsides; comparison of mowing and managed succession; long-term vegetation control methods; connected vehicle pilot deployment program independent evaluation; development of statewide traveler information and traffic incident management systems for the TxDOT; implementation and effectiveness of sound mitigation measures on Texas highways; and advancing innovative high-speed remote-sensing highway infrastructure assessment using emerging technologies Ms. Storey has served as principal investigator or key researcher on numerous research studies sponsored by TxDOT, NCHRP, FHWA, EPA, and various state agencies. She developed numerous national surveys and compiled collected data to provide compendiums of transportation agency best practices. Ms. Storey has provided on-site training and workshops throughout the state for CSS with FHWA, and the Livable, Sustainable Communities workshops with EPA-HUD-DOT. She has also co-authored and taught numerous short courses regarding stormwater management for regulatory compliance and green infrastructure/low impact development for various sponsors.
 
In addition to authoring numerous technical reports, papers, publications and short courses, Ms. Storey has worked closely with TxDOT's Landscape Design & Enhancements Section to provide support to District personnel such as landscape architects, engineers, maintenance personnel, and vegetation managers. Ms. Storey led teams of multi-discipline professionals and community leaders through the process of analysis, conceptualization, design, and planning to create documents which provide guidance for future development, establishment and long-term maintenance of landscape and roadside and infrastructure aesthetic components.
