Short Biography
Mr. Marcus Brewer, P.E., PMP, is a Research Engineer and Assistant Program Manager for TTI's Roadway Design Program. He has more than 25 years of experience in research on topics related to geometric design, roadway and roadside safety, and traffic operations. His research emphasizes intersection design and operations (including roundabouts and innovative intersections), pedestrian mobility and safety, design and operations of streets and highways, freeway design and operations, and effects of geometric design on operations and safety. Marcus has led multiple projects to investigate all aspects of Super 2 passing lanes on rural two-lane highways in Texas. He served as the lead author for FHWA’s latest update to the Handbook for Designing Roadways for the Aging Population, and he was the sole author of NCHRP Synthesis 432, Recent Roadway Geometric Design Research for Improved Safety and Operations. Marcus served as the principal investigator for the NCHRP-sponsored project “Designing for Target Speed”. He is a nationally recognized technical writer, as the lead author or co-author of over 100 technical papers and research reports, and his work can be found in the AASHTO Green Book, the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual, the NCHRP Guide for Roundabouts, and the federal MUTCD. His approach to research seeks to find practical applications that will benefit both the transportation profession and those who use the transportation system. He seeks to find real-world applications for research results, putting tools and resources into the hands of transportation practitioners for everyday use.
