Short Biography
Vicky Nelson joined TTI as a graphic designer in 2005, becoming the institute’s art director in 2018, and the creative director in 2023. She has over twenty years of experience in marketing and communications, including four years with the Texas Engineering Experiment Station Communications Division prior to joining TTI. Her prior experience also includes work in the production and traffic departments at a corporate focused advertising agency in Houston, Texas.
Ms. Nelson specializes in integrated marketing communications. She has worked on a variety of print and web projects covering a wide array of topics and clients, from technical engineering publications to marketing recruitment materials. She is responsible for all aspects of the creative process, including the art direction of photo shoots and the development and execution of marketing concepts. Her work for TTI includes designing online and print public outreach and marketing materials for a wide variety of state and federal transportation sponsors of research projects, as well as for many departments and agencies across the Texas A&M University System. Vicky is skilled in turning complex concepts into easily understood, impactful presentations, graphics and videos that resonate with the intended target audience. She supervises and art directs two graphic designers, 3 video editors, and a photographer on staff at TTI. Products produced in her department include brochures, websites, online interactive newsletters, social media posts, marketing videos, motion graphics, annual reports, infographics, fact sheets, executive summaries, presentations for webinars and courses, guidebooks, and magazines.
She is an Adobe Certified Professional in both print and digital media publication and graphic design and illustration in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. She holds UX certifications from the Nielsen Normal Group (NNg) for User Experience Design.
She has won various awards of Excellence (silver) and Brazos Bravo (gold) from the International Association of Business Communicators. She has received several American Graphic Design Awards from Graphic Design USA Magazine. Accomplishments include several Awards of Excellence from the University and College Designers Association for her work with Texas A&M University Marketing and Communications.
