Short Biography
Mary Levien currently serves as TTI’s Director of Research Development and Contracts and is responsible for the oversight of two administrative divisions: the Research Development Office and the Research Contracts Management Office. She assists researchers by executing the pre-award administrative and post-award functions associated with sponsored research, from locating funding opportunities, reviewing and developing proposals and negotiating contracts and award acceptance to providing post-award project administration for projects directly administered by TTI.
Mrs. Levien is a Certified Research Administrator and received her B.A. from Texas A&M University. Mrs. Levien has experience submitting over 8,000 proposals to a wide variety of sponsors in both the public and private sectors. She is skilled in understanding proposal and project requirements, identifying the root of the problem and working with others to find a solution. She serves as liaison to the Texas Department of Transportation’s Research Program, Texas A&M’s Sponsored Research Services and as TTI’s contact for Maestro. She has participated in teams to develop research administration data and financial management systems and has helped develop policies in the areas of responsible conduct of research, human subjects, conflict of interest, and scoping memoranda of understanding and non-disclosure agreements.
Mrs. Levien is an active member of the Transportation Research Board. She regularly attends professional meetings, workshops and seminars to keep abreast of sponsored research administration.
