Short Biography
Crystal O'Rear is a Research Specialist in the Center for Alcohol and Drug Education Studies at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. With over a decade of service in the public sector in transportation safety, Ms. O'Rear is currently working on projects associated with bicycle & pedestrian safety, ignition interlock device research and education, and motorcycle safety. In support of these projects, she assists with coordinating events, training, surveys, reporting, and reviewing and revising education materials. Ms. O'Rear holds a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University.
In addition to her work at the CADES, her expertise has also been utilized in the Planning and Engagement Program at TTI. Here, she assists with planning and implementation to prevent transit worker and passenger assault on public transit. Her work in this program is completed through her working knowledge of public safety and data analysis of interviews.
Prior to Ms. O'Rear's employment with TTI, she held a Master Peace Officer Certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and worked as a police officer for the City of Bryan. Notably, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her enforcement of intoxication offenses. Mothers Against Drunk Driving also recognized her work with the MADD Award for DWI Enforcement. Ms. O'Rear has experience with crash, criminal, and intoxication offenses. Additionally, she is well-versed in Texas statutes, including transportation, penal, and health and safety codes.
