Short Biography

Mr. Pike is an Associate Research Engineer and Manager of the Signs and Markings Program at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI). Since 2004, Mr. Pike has led and participated in research studies for the Texas Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, state agencies, and private industry. He has conducted research in areas of traffic signing, pavement marking, traffic operations, and work zones with an emphasis on traffic engineering principles, visibility needs, human factors, cost-benefit analysis, and safety implications. Mr. Pike has been the author or co-author on over 60 articles, papers, or reports.

Mr. Pike is currently the program coordinator for the TTI Mobile Retroreflectometer Certification and Verification Programs that are being conducted in cooperation with TxDOT. Mr. Pike is also the manager of the TTI Visibility Research Lab. Mr. Pike is currently conducting research evaluating multiple aspects of pavement markings including; specification and standards development, best practices for application and removal, wet and dry performance evaluations, marking requirements for autonomous vehicles, and minimum pavement marking needs for human drivers. Mr. Pike is also evaluating multiple aspects of traffic singing including; performance levels of sign sheeting material, inspection of sign sheeting failures, and sign sheeting material selection based on driver needs.

Mr. Pike is active with multiple committees of the Transportation Research Board and is a member of the Traffic Control Devices Committee (AHB50). Mr. Pike is also active with multiple committees of ASTM International, the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (NCUTCD), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), SAE International, and the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA).

Mr. Pike holds a Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. Mr. Pike is a registered professional engineer in Texas, No. 105117.
