Abstract
The Texas transportation system is essential to the state's economy. with commercial airports flying both passengers and goods throughout Texas and the various other states, railways and ports serving as a gateway to both local and international markets, and highways connecting local communities and major cities. To determine what transportation factors affect freight business decisions such as site selection, TTI researchers conducted a survey of 500 Texas businesses in 2015 by interviewing industry experts, site selection professionals, and economic development professionals involved in industry recruitment. The results of this survey suggest that access to transportation was the most important factor among those offered to respondents when considering prospective facility sites. Likewise, additional research also conducted in the same year on behalf of the Federal Highway Administration suggest that access to transportation/multimodal transportation is a critical factor in the site selection process.
