Abstract
The original objectives of the project were to: (1) develop methods of instrumenting prestressed concrete piles under field construction conditions with strain gages and deflectiometer to measure actual stress and displacement during driving, (2) use this instrumentation to obtain limited field data from one or two piles during the construction of the Nueces Bay Causeway on US Highway 181, Texas State Highway Project U204 (13), and (3) obtain soil samples from the construction site to evaluate the foundation medium.|After the instrumentation techniques were developed and three piles had been successfully tested, the objectives of the project were expanded to include: (4) two more instrumented piles, and (5) a correlation of the field test data with the theoretical computer solution.|The Nueces Bay Causeway construction site and the location of the five test piles is shown on page four of the report.
