Abstract
This paper discusses the increasingly important role of the traffic engineer in city planning. It presents challenges facing traffic engineers including the question of aesthetics, mass transportation, traffic congestion, and population increase. The importance of collaboration and cooperation between traffic engineers, city planners and public works officials to develop an urban area that will efficiently serve the needs of its population is emphasized.
