Abstract
Cooperative studies by the Texas Highway Department and TTI have investigated both the capacity and operation of diamond interchanges. Since the essential element of the diamond interchange is the signalized intersection, much of the research has been directed toward a study of this element. This research has provided the basis for a fundamental look at intersection capacity and has contributed to a better understanding of the interrelated factors involved. The purpose of this paper will be to discuss some of the pertinent findings regarding intersection signalization and capacity.
