I waited 17 years for August 22, 2012.
The freedom of being able to take myself anywhere I could think of was unimaginable. It was a day full of excitement for me, plus my wife and kids. I barely slept the night before, filled with anxiety and anticipation of becoming more independent.
The process was long, involved many days of waiting and lots of forms to sign…lol. But, when it was all said and done, and the keys were put in my hands finally to drive my new sidekick home for the first time, boy was I relieved! I was like, ‘its actually happening!’
I drove all over the place, calling everyone I knew who had been helping me keep count of the days gone by when I’d be driving myself. The first night I got my truck, I took my wife to get her favorite ice cream — that made me feel like a real gentleman. A week ago, I drove myself to the barbershop for the first time on my own. It was an exciting feeling like no other. But when I drove my kids to school and daycare, that made me the proudest person in the world. Being able to contribute with driving has truly been a blessing to my family, and most of all myself.
Many thanks to DARS and last but not least, Sam Brenner and her amazing team at United Access. Great job guys. I will be forever grateful! I absolutely love my new truck!!!
